"It may be difficult to define Akiva's music, but no matter what you call it, we promise you're going to dig it." (Performing Songwriter- December, 2006) Akiva's music career began while playing Counting Crows covers for classmates at UMASS. As a neurobiology major, he pushed any ideas of a serious music career out of his head as he pursued his original dream of becoming a brain surgeon. But while studying abroad, Akiva found himself spending more time playing gigs in English Pubs and popping up on local radio than dissecting gray matter. Eventually settling back in New York, Akiva hit the local music scene with more enthusiasm than ever, bringing his mellow soul to such sought-after venues as New York's Knitting Factory (where he performed to a sold out crowd), The Bitter End and the Tribeca Rock Club. A chance encounter with producer Phil Jimenez (Wheatus) at a friend's backyard wedding led to Akiva's critically acclaimed debut release, Bueno Y Sano. As one DJ put it, "it's one of those CDs you don't want to let your friend borrow. Laid back groove and muy caliente!" (UTA Radio) With a dedicated (and international) fanbase, Akiva was no longer just a well-known local fixture. As word about his infectious sound continued to spread, radio stations from Santa Monica to Boston added gems from Bueno Y Sano to their play lists. With the release of The Hermosa EP in 2005, Akiva continued to expand his musical horizons. With a sound best described as indie pop meets funky folk, Discovering Artists said: "...this album will propel his career...a dazzling collection of tracks." Now, Akiva takes the next step with The Huntington Sessions, a series of singles, that will be released for free as a unique download on Akiva’s MySpace page (myspace.com/akiva) over the next six months beginning with "Junk In The Trunk (Respect Me)," on Tuesday, August 7th, 2007. Again produced by Jimenez, The Huntington Sessions is Akiva’s third release, and is currently being recorded in Jimenez’s Huntington, NY, studio.
