The BK Style Foundation, a non-profit founded in 2004, was born out of recognition that Brooklyn was exploding with talent. The Borough's renaissance as a supremely desirable place to live had attracted artists of all stripes, including those with a bent toward design. The co-founders of the BK Style Foundation, Rick Davy and Cybele Sandy, fashion and entertainment professionals of considerable experience, were well acquainted with the tremendous effort required to show professionally. Not only was it a considerable financial burden on fledgling designers, a blue-chip database of contacts was also an important factor, in order to attract the audience of influential opinion-makers and fashion insiders to a collection's success. In launching the Foundation, Davy and Sandy have laid the infrastructure for a one-stop, Brooklyn-based powerhouse, one that would assist young designers in honing their lines and growing their business, and additionally provide a professional forum for shows: one replete with the staging and atmosphere that would grab the attention and most importantly, respect of the fashion community. The BK Style Foundation isn't just committed to design: it intends to be of service to the community as a whole, presenting innovative educational programs that will teach young people about careers on the creative and business sides of fashion.
